Everest 2003 Preparations Hood River, Oregon
Hood River is home for Adventures International Inc. We stay and play here between trips. Everything is in non stop go, preparing for this years Everest expedition. We are testing the electronics, solar systems, satellite phones we will be using. Getting back up laptop computers ready, charging systems dialed, equipment purchased for the two and a half months we will be at Base Camp and above. Thousands of details go into getting things ready and now is the time. We are actually close to getting things ready for shipping over to Nepal. This will be a big year with our expeditions going to both Lhotse and Everest, with 2 separate support treks.

The season is getting closer! Were packing food and getting the tons of equipment ready for our trip to the South Col Route on Everest this spring. We have 8 total climbers going this season with 2 separate trekking groups heading into base camp with the climbing expeditions! Super busy right now getting packed. Have 2 trips on Aconcagua right now and another leaving for Patagonia in a few days. Check back for more updates.

Full swing getting things together for the expedition coming up in only 2 short weeks. John Rust and I are packing food for the trip now, ordering and testing the huge collection of electronics that go into staying in touch back home and with this web page. Look for some of the newest technology available that will offer the absolute most current reports from Everest this season. We will be using the Human Edge Tech Software System with Compaq IPAQ pocket computers that will offer connections directly to our web page sending reports, photos, short video clips and sound. This will be through both the Iridium and Thuraya Satellite systems. We should be able to have virtual live coverage as things are happening. Our goal is to send photos live from the summit. Sounds fun, but checking and rechecking everything is a huge job. Another interesting addition is the new BGAN High Speed internet data terminal at base camp which is the fastest data connection possible in remote areas like Nepal!

Just a week left before were off to Nepal. The house and office are a complete knee deep heap of wires, computers, solar panels, batteries, piles of food, stacks of tents, and cold Lattes everywhere! Were almost there though, things are starting to get packed into bags for the trip to the other side of our planet! Everyone is very excited! Once everything is over in Nepal and up to Base Camp we'll be able to relax a bit more. Too much to do at the moment. This next weekend we should be able to send our first report testing the new IPAQ to Sat phone direct to web page system! This really should be fun and a lot easier to stay in touch.
