Circle Aconcagua Trek

A rugged backcountry trek circling completely around Cerro Aconcagua. We meet in Mendoza, Argentina. Then travel up to the trailhead at Los Penitentes for the start of our trek into the Vacas Valley and around the north side of Aconcagua. The upper part of this valley is seldom visited; we go through the “Vieja Quebrada Alta” (the high old canyon) then traverse near the Gussfeldt Glacier. This trek covers some difficult glacial moraine and passes through several stretches of “Penitentes” or large fins or towers of ice as we climb up to a pass at “Nidos de Condors” (18,500 ft.) on the normal climbing route. Then it is all downhill to Plaza De Mules. We pass through a very remote valley on the way in, linking with the more popular Horocones Valley for our trek out. We can also visit the Horocones Inferior Valley up to Plaza Frances right below the south face of Aconcagua on our way out for the classic views of the mountain. This trip has only been done a few times by anyone and is a lot of fun! We are the first company to offer this trek and successfully guide it!
