Visit the national parks, rain and cloud forests and view exotic flora and fauna.
San Jose: We'll meet in this fascinating capital full of colorful markets, restaurants and shops. We'll have time to explore town and relax.
Quepos and Manuel Antonio Park: Our first destination will take us to Manuel Antonio Park. We'll have our choice of several shorter hikes here and see lots of Monkeys and Iguanas. Good snorkeling in the bay. Hotel on the beach.
Palo Verde and Santa Rosa National Parks: We'll drive north to Palo Verde National Park, several shorter hikes here. Lots of interesting animals. Then Santa Rosa National Park, offering more trails. We'll be staying in a wonderful Hacienda.
Rincon De La Vieja National Park: A longer trail up to the summit of the volcano Santa Maria. Bubbling mud pots, sulfur vents and more fascinating birds and animals in the lush forests of this area. Stay in a great lodge in the park.
The Monte Verde Reserve: Drive to the town of Santa Elena and into the cloud forests of Monte Verde Park. A series of trails takes us into one of the most remarkable viewing areas of birds and animals anywhere.
Arenal Volcano and Lake: A close up look at a very active volcano (not too close though). Drive around the shore of Lake Arenal, to the town of Fortuna and the Hotel Bosco. Spend an evening in the Tabacon Hot Springs, visit the volcano at night (visible glow and smaller eruptions) and a hike into a local waterfall for swimming!
Volcanoes Poas and Irazu: We’ll visit both these areas on our way back to San Jose. Great trail systems that take us right out to the crater rims.
Included: All hotels (2 to 3 star), all ground transportation (private car or 4wd), American guide, most breakfasts, food while hiking, park fees.
