| Mexico Volcanoes Highlights Our shorter climbing oriented trip to climb the classic Mexico Volcanoes: Summit climbs of both Ixta and Orizaba! Mexico City: We’ll meet here at the airport, then head out of town. There are a lot of sights to see, and fascinating history here. Hot and sunny almost every day! Amecameca: Drive to Amecameca, with time to explore the local market. Ixtaccihuatl: Day hike part way up Ixta to adjust to the altitude. Fantastic views! Popocatepetl: At this time it is still not safe to climb Popo due to recent volcanic activity. As soon as things calm down we will be back to Popo for this outstanding climb. Tlachichuca: Drive to another small interesting village, staying in town. We organize our ride up to the Orizaba hut. Orizaba Hut: Take jeeps up to the Orizaba hut. Outstanding views of the valleys below and Orizaba! Orizaba climb: Go for the summit, 18,696 ft. high and spectacular! We use one of several routes, depending on local conditions and group Teotihuacán Pyramids: Spend day at the pyramids on our way back to Mexico City time allowing. The pyramids offer an interesting look into Mexico’s fascinating past. Mexico City: Back to Mexico City for flights home. If we have an extra day at the end of our trip exploring Mexico City can be fun. Trips to Acapulco on the Pacific coast, Vera Cruz on the Gulf Coast or the markets of Oxaca to the South are recommended if you have the extra time, and are easy to arrange.
