Annapurna Sanctuary Trek and Tarpu Chuli (Tent Peak) and Singu Chuli (Fluted peak) Climbing Expedition.

Kathmandu: We’ll meet in the exotic city of Kathmandu. An interesting mix of Hindu and Buddhist cultures, full of interesting temples, markets and bazaars.  We plan time here at the start and end of our trip to explore Kathmandu.

Pokhara: We fly to this fascinating city situated south of the Annapurna Range along the shores of Phewa Lake.  From close to town we begin our trek into the Sanctuary.

Trek In: Starting in the small village of Naya Pul, we’ll follow the Modi Khola up through Biiratanti and Ghandrung. An interesting look into the Gurung culture, and of course some great views of the mountains of the Annapurna Range. Onto Chomrong and into the huge Modi Khola Gorge full of massive waterfalls tumbling off Machupachare and Hiunchuli. We continue up via the small villages of Bamboo, Himalayan Hotel and Machupachare Base camp to our Base camp in the heart of the Sanctuary.

Base Camp: From the small group of lodges at Annapurna Base camp, we travel across the glacial moraine of the Annapurna glacier (below the amazing South Face of Annapurna One), to our base camp near the center of the Sanctuary. Base camp is over 14,000 ft. Spectacular views all around.

Tarpu Chuli: We plan to climb this excellent peak situated directly in the middle of the Sanctuary via the normal Southwest face to Northwest ridge route. This route involves technical snow and ice climbing, use of fixed ropes, and glacier travel. A good acclimatization trip before Singu Chuli. Anyone wanting to attempt Singu has to do well and be strong on Tarpu before attempting the more difficult, committing and higher Singu Chuli. We use a high camp at around 16,200 ft. for Tarpu Chuli before summit day. Tarpu Chuli is over 18,500 ft.

Singu Chuli: After a short break we’ll follow our route back up to Camp 2 at 18,200 on the col between Singu and Tarpu Chuli. From here we’ll follow the spectacular South ridge up to 19,000ft. and over a small intermediate summit along the ridge to our Camp 3, which will be our summit camp. From here it’s a long day with some difficult snow and ice climbing to reach the upper ridge and the summit.  One of the best actual climbing peaks at this altitude in Nepal 21,500 ft. Very good experience for those wanting to go onto larger and more technical climbing goals at altitude. Do not underestimate Fluted Peak, it is a very exposed and challenging climb.

Trek Out: Following the Singu Chuli climb we pack up our base camp and follow the Modi Khola gorge out to Chomrong, and if we have any additional time we trek to Ghoropani and Poon Hill then out a different route than we followed on the way in. One night in Pokhara before catching flights back to Kathmandu.
